Ridgeback's Metro range is the brand's offering of lightweight, low maintenance town bikes. Characterised primarily by hub gearing, comfortable riding position, chain guard and kick stand, these bikes direct a respectful tip of the hat to the classic British 3 speeds of yore from the likes of Raleigh and BSA and give them a modern twist. Ridgeback's British designers have combined sensible Shimano-dominated specification with understated aesthetics to bring the classic British shopper back to life. Hub gearing gives the opportunity to fit a 3/4 length chain guard so your best bell bottoms are safe from the mucky bits. The maintenance gains of not having an oily, vulnerable derailleur mechanism are joyous on a bike designed for the urban jungle.
Women's models feature a user-friendly, ultra-low step-through frame and a handlebar mounted quick-release basket.
We like the low weight, the low maintenance and the swept comfy handlebar.
The Ridgeback Avenida 7 is a respectable, useable and very light town bike. Used on many Dutch and German city bikes, the 7 Shimano hub gear offers a broad spread of gears. We think you'll like this bike for the very low step-through frame height and the massive convenience of being able to change down from top gear to first gear while you are sitting at the traffic lights.
We love the inclusion of a basket. We would recommend fitting a rack as well, to avoid the temptation to overload the basket and affect the steering. We think this bike is good for short to medium commutes and day to day utility rides.
