Ridgeback kid's bikes are simple, high quality and dependable machines which will encourage confident and competent cycling from the earliest age.

Starting with pedal-less balance bikes, they are all based on on a strong and very light aluminium frame. Specification is reassuringly simple, but high quality where it matters. For example, mini V-brakes are used across the range instead of the ineffective plate steel calipers seen on many rival brands.

Also, be rest assured that your child will be able to stop without the wheels locking - owing to the brake cable dampers. He or she will also be able to reach the brake levers in the first place as we pre-adjust them as appropriate. More gears as they get bigger, but not too many.

As with the adult bikes, colours are simple and unfussy.

The Ridgeback Scoot is a simple and elegant balance bike that allows a child to teach herself the basic principle of minor adjustments of the steering to maintain balance on two wheels. The Scoot is basically a bike with no pedals, low enough to be useable from about 2 years. To ride it, the child sits on the saddle and ‘scoots’ the bike along the ground with her feet. How much she lifts her feet is totally within her control. Before you know it she’ll be free-wheeling with both feet up for as far as her momentum will carry. The Scoot also has a proper spoked wheels and a rear V-brake with a reach-adjustable lever, though in practice you will find that it's her shoe soles that will do the braking.

In house, we have experienced the joy and the effectiveness of these first hand. Our kids are off riding bikes earlier and because of that, they love 'em.

We also sometimes stock the Zooom, which is simply the same bike, but one that's available to non Ridgeback dealers.
