Ridgeback's Rapide range of bikes is the brand's highly successful staple range of versatile all-rounders. These bikes are good value but high quality British designed bikes either lightly equipped with rack and mudguards, or in naked, more sporty trim.
We like them for their smart understated styling; their general lack of suspension forks - which we feel to be unecessary for this type; and their more consistent use of high quality Shimano parts than you will find on other brands.
Encompassing fifteen models ranging from £250 to £650, there is a bike to suit all requirements and budgets.
The Ridgeback Supernova is the pinnacle of the Rapide range. It will leave you smiling and breathless. It might encourage you to race lycra-clad club riders in your work clothes, carrying luggage, wearing your Oxford Brogues or Converse All Stars. But, it's probably better just to take it out for a long ride in the country, as it's light and fast but comfortable - the kind of bike that you can ride all day on.
Why? Its super-light aluminium frame and carbon fork. Also, it has Shimano Deore 27 speed equipment - used consistently throughout the bike, which includes shifters, wheel hubs, brakes and brake levers - unlike many rivals. This means that its systems will work more reliably and for longer - and you will notice it. What you get is a bike that responds to the effort you put in and accelerates very nimbly.
The versatile Supernova is good for medium to long distance road rides. If you add mudguards and a rack, it's good for most commutes, faster utility rides and lighter touring and as a result, very popular.
